How to Measure Your PD
What is Pupillary Distance?
PD stands for pupillary distance, which is the distance between the centers of your two pupils.
Why is it important?
It’s an important measurement for prescription glasses because it helps ensure that the lenses are aligned correctly with your eyes, optimizing vision and comfort.
How to measure PD?
Stand in front of a mirror, position yourself about 10-20 inches (25-50 cm) away from the mirror.
Close your right eye and align the ruler’s zero mark with the center of your left pupil. Then, open your right eye and close your left eye, noting the measurement on the ruler that aligns with the center of your right pupil. This is your PD.
The measurement is usually given in millimeters. It’s a good idea to repeat the process a few times to ensure accuracy and take the average if there’s any variation.
For the most accurate PD measurement, it’s best to have it taken by an optician or an optometrist during an eye exam. They have specialized tools and techniques to ensure precision.
Average PD for men and women
Women have an average of around 60 mm, while the average for men is about 64 mm. However, pupillary distance is different for everyone.
